BIOGRAPHY

Mahesa Utara is one of the first generation DJ/Producers who was truly one of the first “bedroom producers” in Indonesia. He won his first competition back in 2008 and his discography of originals and remixes received support and play from names such as Diplo, Laidback Luke, Swedish House Mafia to name a few. He had released his track in some of the biggest EDM label in the world such as Mad Decent and Vicious and also co-produced a track in the second Major Lazer Album.

On top of touring Indonesia for the better part of the last decade he was also a Consultant for the famous Indonesian Electronic Music centered TV show titled “THE REMIX”. During the past 10 years, he won another 7 awards including DJ of the Year by Paranoia in 2015 and in the same year he decided to create a platform together with his fellow producers with a single mission to teach and help the next generation of producers in Indonesia.

Jazz Punk References
Mahesa Utara sounds is inspired by his diverse references of music. From the complexity of jazz to the raw rebellious attitude of punk. This unique combination of music elements are projected into his work. His signature can only be described as “unexpected” and sometimes “weird” in a good way.

From Chick Corea to Diplo
At a very early young age, Mahesa Utara was introduced to jazz by his father, the complexity of Jazz fascinated him so much, that he decided to learn a musical instrument (drums) and dig deep into the progressive and fusion jazz such as Java Jazz and Chick Corea. In 2008 however, the other side of music making processes starts to grow on him, which is music production. In 2008 he made the the decision to lean into electronic music, he won his first nation wide remix competition in that same year. 2010 he made the first EDM to moombahton transitional tracks in the world. This track made him get recognition from some of the big DJs such as Diplo, Chuckie, Sidney Samson, Swedish House Mafia, and Laidback Luke. In 2012 Mahesa Utara coproduced a track with Diplo for the Major Lazer Project. This was his first biggest achievement. In 2018 he and his fellow producers made a label designed to help the next generation producers in Indonesia.

TIMELINE

2008
Mahesa Utara won his first nation wide remix competition.
2010
Mahesa Utara made a remix of Angger Dimas – Are You Ready, the remix that made him gained International attention. He also won Juice DJ Competition as 1st runner up in the same year.
2011
Mahesa Utara signed at Vicious Recordings. Released many bootlegs, and got the Rookie of the Year Award from Hard Rock Radio. He also played his first rave party at Dim Mak Stage in Playground Festival
2012
Mahesa Utara released his first single at Vicious titled To the Ground, and did nation wide tour.
2013
Mahesa Utara awarded Remix of The Year by Paranoia – Hard Rock FM
2014
Mahesa Utara won the Electro of The Year by Paranoia – Hard Rock FM
2015
Mahesa Utara awarded as DJ of the Year by Paranoia – Hard Rock FM
2016
Mahesa Utara and his team participated to make one of a very successful Indonesian TV show titled the REMIX.
2017
Mahesa Utara founded Uprising.

*Uprising is the first “right” leaned EDM music label in Indonesia. It had signed most of the best producers in the country.
